Module Two: Lesson Two

Introduction

Welcome to Module Two, Lesson Two: Services in the Everyday Routines, Activities, and Places of Children and Families-Maximizing Natural Learning Opportunities. In this lesson, you will continue to learn about Robin McWilliam's Early Intervention in Natural Environments (EINE)-Five Component Model. In Lesson One, the first component, Understanding the Family Ecology, was presented. In this lesson, the second component, Functional Intervention Planning is discussed, including the Routines-Based Interview (RBI). You will also learn the specific policies and procedures related to functional intervention planning in the Early Steps service delivery system. The final lesson in this module, Lesson Three: Integrated Supports and Services-Utilizing a Team Based Primary Service Provider Model, will cover the remaining three components of the EINE model, Integrated Services, Effective Home Visits, and Collaborative Consultation to Child Care.

Upon completion of this lesson, you will be able to:

• Describe each of the five components of Robin McWilliam's Early Intervention in Natural Environments: Five Component Model.
• State the three purposes of Functional Intervention Planning.
• Identify the three needs that functional child outcomes address.
• Identify family and community activity settings and the learning opportunities within these settings.
• State the five phases of the Routines-Based Interview.
• State the six questions that you ask during a Routines-Based Interview.
• Discuss three things professionals should consider when families do not choose as priorities problems or concerns that professionals have about the child.
• Recognize the Early Steps policies and procedures related to functional intervention planning as part of the service delivery system.
• Explain the four principles needed to understand the Early Intervention in Natural Environments-Five Component model.
