CMS Telehealth Vision Statement: The effective use of advanced telecommunications technology can eliminate barriers to the provision of comprehensive and effective health care for children with special health care needs; children with or at risk for developmental delay; and children suspected to be abused or neglected in this large and diverse state. Access to necessary specialty care; professional education, support, communication and collaboration; and patient and family education and ongoing support are all enhanced through this technology. The effective use of telehealth technology can increase the productivity of staff and contributes to the management efficiency of headquarters and area offices. Telemedicine & Telehealth Projects:
Awards and Recognition CMSs Child Protection Team telemedicine pilot project received the Pillar Award for Best in Telemedicine at the TeleCon West Conference and Exhibition in November, 1999, in Anaheim, California. The Pillar Awards are a new category of awards that focus on innovative projects in videoconferencing. Floridas CPT telemedicine project was awarded the only Pillar Award in Telemedicine. Karen Morse, telehealth engineer and Dr. Jay Whitworth, statewide CPT Medical Director, who were making a presentation at the conference, accepted the award. |
