SATP VISION: Break the cycle of sexual abuse by providing the children of Sarasota and Desoto Counties a safe place to be heard, to learn, and to heal from the trauma.

SATP MISSION: To provide a comprehensive therapeutic program for children and families who have reported and documented sexual abuse.

SERVICE OFFERED: The SATP program of the Child Protection Center has three site locations, Sarasota, Venice, and Arcadia. We currently have 10 therapists, 8 are licensed, and 2 are registered interns. with professionally trained therapists who provide individual and group therapy using empirically based treatment modalities.

In addition to individual sessions, we conduct 5 children’s groups and one non-offending caregiver group per week. The groups are lead by a therapist and a co-facilitator (an adult sexual abuse survivor). The non-offending caregiver(s) and siblings are offered individual and family therapy as part of our family-focused intervention. We utilize a combination of Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy and Play Therapy. We are currently training to be able to provide Sand-tray Play Therapy.

Our program works closely with DCF, Law Enforcement, Guardian Ad Litem, and the Child Protection Team which is co-located at our center. Our Family Advocate links families with resources and referrals within the community, assists families with navigating the legal system, and assists with immediate parenting needs.

SATP also provides group counseling for teen mothers at the Cyesis Program, and to female teens at Character House.

ELIGIBILITY: Children who are victims of intra-familial, non-familial, and/or child-on-child sexual abuse, and their siblings and non-offending caregiver(s) without regard to cultural background, ethnicity, disability, or handicap.
