The program
provides highly specialized services to children who may have
experienced some form of child maltreatment by their caretaker. The CPT
provides diagnostic evaluations of children and their families to help
the Department of Children and Families (DCF) determine the extent of
any trauma experienced by the child. The CPT makes an initial assessment
at the time of a referral to determine the type of comprehensive
evaluations needed by the child and/or family. Some of the evaluations
provided by the CPT include forensic, psychosocial, psychological, and
medical evaluations. Other Specialized interviews are also available
through the CPT, and are used to help supplement the DCF investigation.
The multi-disciplinary team is available to the courts for expert court
testimony. Recommendations are made for appropriate treatment of the
children and their families, and multidisciplinary staffings are
sometimes utilized to assist with this process. The services are
provided to the following counties: Liberty, Leon, Franklin, Wakulla,
Jefferson, Gadsden, Madison, and Taylor counties. CPT has a 24 hour a
day, 7 days a week coverage for emergent care. The program is staffed
with a board certified pediatrician who is the Medical Director of the
CPT. Other CPT staff include social workers, psychologists and
attorneys. CPT is available to provide training to professionals and
groups in the community.
VICTIMS OF CRIME ACT (VOCA):
VOCA is an adjunct program to the CPT. It provides medical evaluations,
trauma assessments, and crisis counseling to children who are sexually
abused by a friend, neighbor, acquaintance, stranger, another child, or
relative who isn’t in a caretaker role for the child. These highly
specialized services are available in Leon, Franklin, Gadsden, Jefferson
and Wakulla counties on a 24 hour a day, seven day a week basis. Several
ARNPs are available to VOCA to provide sexual assault medical
examinations as needed. The CPT Medical Director also provides medical
services to the program. The program makes referrals for long term
counseling, when appropriate.
