The Child Protection Team is a program of Families Count, a not for profit organization that provides services for children and their families. The team is one of the five principle members of the Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center. The CAC is located in Niceville, Florida and houses members of the multidisciplinary team that investigates child abuse in Okaloosa and Walton counties. The CPT represents the medical component of the multidisciplinary approach and provides the forensic medical services at the center, including forensic interviews and medical evaluations. Registered Nurses who have specialized training in forensic interviews and nursing assessment of child abuse staff the team. Board certified pediatricians perform medical evaluations and a licensed psychologist provides psychological evaluations of the children or parents. The Florida Department of Health Children’s Medical Services, Okaloosa County and Walton County provide funding for services for children up to age 18 who have been abused by either a caretaker or non-caretaker.
