The Child Protection Team (CPT) uses a crisis-oriented, multi-disciplinary approach for the evaluation and treatment of the abused and/or neglected child and his/her family. The CPT staff includes:

  • Pediatric Medical Director and Pediatricians

  • Nurse Practitioners

  • Coordinator of Clinical Services

  • Psychologist

  • Case Coordinators

  • Attorney

  • Support Staff

A CPT case coordinator and a medical professional are available 24 hours a day to provide access to crisis intervention, case coordination, family system evaluation and consultation, medical services, forensic interviewing, as well as other team services.

Consultation with the CPT can be made by professionals suspecting abuse and neglect on a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week basis by calling (904) 244-4620, the main office in Jacksonville or (904) 529-9228, the satellite office in Green Cove Springs.

The CPT’s parent organization, Children’s Crisis Center, is co-located at the CPT’s main office. The Center provides additional programs to promote safe and healthy family functioning.

The Sexual Abuse Treatment Program is a therapeutic program for CPT families who are victims of sexual abuse. Working collaboratively with private psychological services, this treatment program helps families from the time of crisis through long-term therapy.

The Monique Burr Child Safety Net Program helps reduce the incidence of child abuse by reducing adult stressors that contribute to abuse. Intervention can range from helping the family access services, teaching parenting skills, discipline, nutrition, child safety and health and homemaking practices. The program provides follow-up services for families where abuse has occurred and direct one-on-one case management for three to six months. Support groups and educational classes are sponsored in Duval, Clay, Baker, Nassau and St. Johns counties.
Referrals are made through the Child Protection Team.

The Adopt-a-Family: Caring Connection Program connects families at high risk for dysfunctional parenting with a positive support system through a church in their community. This program recruits and trains volunteers from existing churches through the First Step Volunteer Training Program to become a support to high risk families served by Healthy Families Jacksonville. An action plan is developed for services to be provided, building on family strengths. Involvement is six months with the participating church committing for at least one year.
Referrals are received through Healthy Families Jacksonville.

The Child Victim Rapid Response Program is a school-based program designed to address the needs of students and their family members who have endured, witnessed or are targets of domestic or date-related violence. It provides education to students and educators on victimization and abuse; consultation and assistance to educators regarding students who may be victims or potential victims of violence; advocacy for children including referrals to community agencies, assistance in filing claims, follow-up with the child’s family and access to emergency legal services. Services are available in Duval and Baker counties.

The Rape Prevention & Education Program provides rape risk reduction education to children of middle and high school age, college and university students, underserved populations, professional groups and the general population, with the goal of reducing the crime of sexual assault by increasing knowledge, altering attitudes and beliefs and facilitating behavior changes.

The Good Touch/Bad Touch – Body Safety Education Program is a child abuse prevention curriculum for pre-K through sixth grade youth, which teaches skills children need to play a significant role in the prevention or interruption of abuse in their lives. Children are taught what abuse is, given prevention skills including body safety rules and are motivated to take action if threatened or victimized. Children are also provided with a comfortable and non-threatening way to talk about the sensitive and complex problem of sexual abuse.
