Pediatric hiv program Purpose The purpose of the Children’s Medical Services (CMS) Pediatric HIV Program is to provide coordinated and family centered care and access to centers of excellence for eligible HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) exposed and infected infants and children. Authority The Pediatric HIV Program is administered by the Children’s Medical Service (CMS) Network. The CMS Program, within the Department of Health, is Florida’s Title V Agency, and serves the State’s children with special health care needs. Specific authority for the CMS Network is established in Chapter 391, Florida Statutes. Description The Pediatric HIV Program serves HIV exposed and infected infants and children through a network of seven medical referral centers* and CMS community based clinics**. Pediatric HIV Referral Centers are located at the University of Florida in Gainesville and Jacksonville; the University of South Florida in Tampa and St. Petersburg; Orlando Regional Medical Center; the Children’s Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Ft. Lauderdale; and the University of Miami. These Centers provide medical evaluation, long-term medical management and treatment; nursing and social service case management and coordination; patient and parent education; and nutrition counseling. CMS nurses and social workers, located in 22 CMS Area Offices around the state, provide care coordination to assist families in obtaining services that are needed for their child’s care. Eligibility HIV exposed and infected infants and children under the age of 21 enrolled in the CMS Network are eligible to participate in the CMS Pediatric HIV Program.
